One of the most famous sites in the entire world is called Petra, and we are blessed that it is found right here in Jordan. Petra is known as one of the "New 7 Wonders of the World" along with Christ the Redeemer, the Colosseum, Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Taj Mahal, and Chichen Itza. It was pretty amazing to see and to think that it was manmade.
Per my Dad again...:)
We left the Dead Sea around 4:30pm and thought we had a 2 1/2 hour drive to Petra. We took some back roads ( a big mistake) as it took us 4 hours to drive to Petra. It was quite an adventure as we felt we were lost most of the way and went through some interesting country and towns. It was like a scene from a movie. Micah talked the whole way and again Paul did a terrific job driving.
We got to Petra just in time to do the night walk to "The Treasury". This was a 1 mile walk along a path lit only by 1500 candle luminaries - the path goes the a narrow natural canyon that has tall walls of rocks. The Treasury is famous from the Indiana Jones movie "the Last Crusade. We got to hear Bedoin music and then walked back. Micah did sleep through most of this walk in Kari's baby carrier. We then checked into a neat hotel near the entrance - ordered room service at 11:30 and watched the end of The Star Wars movie - episode 1.
