We began our New Year bright and early with a stop at the Mount of Olives. This hill has always been an important part of Jerusalem's landscape and served as one of the major burial grounds for the city. There was some significant Biblical history that took place here as this was where David fled from Absalom (II Sam. 15:30; 16:14); Jesus taught the Mt. of Olives discourse (Matt. 24); the scene of the Triumphal entry (Luke 19:28-44); one of the places that Jesus went on the night of his betrayal (Matt. 26:39); where Jesus ascended into heaven (Acts 1:4-12); and this Mount will be split at the Second Coming of Christ (Zec. 14:4).
On top of the mount was a pretty incredible view of Jerusalem. Most of the pictures below are with the Temple Mount (which is where the Dome of the Rock is located) in the background.
